Stronger United-Stronger UK@United Europe: Remain & Transform!

Activist, Political and Non-Governmental Organisations

Fighting and winning the BREXIT Referendum on our terms is not an enterprise we can engage in alone. One of SU's most important objectives is to serve as a hub for all think-tanks, activist organisations, social movements and NGOs who care deeply about Britain's future in Europe and wish to participate and shape this critical debate.

Such organisations will no doubt have their own agendas, events, and activities, and their own ways of reaching out and involving the wider public. SU welcomes and respects all their initiatives and wishes to ensure that we all can coordinate our efforts in order to maximise the results.

Active cooperation and coordination between all of us will be critical in order to mobilise the British electorate, engage in wide-ranging deliberations and discussions on the topics related to the Referendum, and persuading as many citizens as possible to come out and vote on polling day.

European Movement UK is an independent, non-partisan, grassroots organisation that works to promote the idea that the UK’s brightest future lies in close partnership with its European neighbours. It is part of the European Movement International network that has been campaigning for peace, stability, better jobs and prosperity through European integration for over 70 years.
Britain Stronger In Europe or ‘Stronger In’ is the official campaign for a vote to ‘remain’ in the upcoming referendum on EU membership. It argues that the benefits of being in—a stronger economy, stronger security and stronger leadership on the world stage—clearly outweigh the costs.
Brand EU is ‘generating a people movement for the millions that believe in European unity’ and as part of its campaign to keep Britain in the EU, is tackling many of the myths that have built up around EU membership. Its mission is to build a dynamic European identity and visionary brand of Europe that enhances our national identities and inspires us to build an innovative EU and a sustainable world.
British Influence believes that EU membership can be summed as improving our prosperity, security and society. They believe that we benefit greatly from the EU single market, cooperation on tackling organised crime and terrorism and through increased peace and transparency that comes from international collaboration.
Say Yes to Europe is dedicated to traditional, popular, grassroots action. They focus on sharing information on the benefits of EU membership for citizen rights and also on ensuring the referendum is open to all residents of the UK. It links individuals and groups that are campaigning to ensure a pro-EU result in the referendum.
Say Yes to Europe Scotland provides a platform for a uniquely Scottish voice that is distinct from the UK-wide Say Yes to Europe community while being united in their pro-EU stance. The purpose of Say Yes 2 Europe Scotland is to help campaign for a vote for Scotland and the rest of the UK to stay as a member of the European Union.
Lib Dems Europe Campaign builds on the Lib Dems long history of a strong pro-EU stance and looks to bring those with classic Liberal values into the pro-EU camp. They believe that the best future for us and our children is an open, outward looking, collaborative partnership with our neighbours where we can stand tall together and work towards tackling global challenges.
European Movement Scotland is Scotland’s oldest dedicated pro-European campaigning community. They believe that the EU brings broad ranging benefits to Scotland including freedom of movement, consumer protections and reduced fares and tariffs at home and when travelling, better environmental protections, and social protections especially for workers – as well as a boost to jobs especially from Scottish exports to EU neighbours.
Scientists for EU was set up to ensure that the EU referendum debate included science, technology and their importance for quality jobs and a productive UK economy as well as for tackling the big social challenges of today such as an ageing population, climate change and food security. The EU is a huge benefit for scientific development and the UK currently has a global leadership position due to the level of international collaboration that is facilitated by EU membership.
Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Executive DirectorTony Manwaring: ‘The role of management accountants is to assess all relevant information to decide what will best ensure the success of business now and in the future. On this basis, they have said that the UK’s membership of the EU is good for the UK. The majority of CIMA members want the UK to remain within the European Union at all costs.’
PR and public affairs firm Cicero Group and the insight consultancy BritainThinks have launched a partnership offering research, polling and political analysis to help businesses prepare for the UK’s European Union membership referendum. The joint service offering includes research, strategic counsel, political engagement and analysis of what either result in the vote would mean for corporates and their customers.
Stay in Europe is a campaign dedicated to promoting the benefits to the UK of EU membership and why it is better to stay ‘in’. A key point is the common problems we share that can be better addressed if we unite with our European neighbours. The aim is to better inform the debate on Europe and give British people a clear message why it is better if we #STAYIN the EU.
Keep Scotland in the EU is a community that is determined to raise the profile of the benefits of EU membership to Scotland. Scotland is more Euro-friendly than other parts of the EU but may be pulled out by the dominance of England-based voters and Scotland will have to fight to join pro-EU voices to stay in.
Labour IN for Britain is the campaign run by the UK Labour Party, promoting their policy of Britain remaining in the EU. They believe that EU membership brings jobs, growth and investment but also improved workers’ and consumers’ rights.
Young European Movement was formed in 1972 as a non-partisan platform for pro-European opinions of the under 35s. Linked to European Movement and Young European Federalists, they have a history of organising events, running campaigns and even bringing education into schools. They are volunteer run and seek to promote European integration and a stronger European Union.
Pro Europa runs a broad campaign based on the EU’s benefits for jobs, trade, consumer rights, peace and democracy, collective power to get better trade deals and power to take on today’s global multi-national giants that are bigger than most individual countries.
New Europeans promotes the benefits of EU membership with a focus on the rights of EU citizens especially the right to freedom of movement. As such, it represents 2.5 million EU citizens that have moved to the UK to live, work or study and over 2 million UK citizens who have moved to other EU states.
Another Europe is a campaign for a radical ‘in’ vote – building a community that is pro-EU even while it works towards building a stronger, reformed union that can bring about the radical social change our citizens need in the UK and across Europe.
UK to Stay in the EU is on a mission to engage 50,000 volunteers to collectively win 15 million votes to remain in the EU at the upcoming referendum. They estimate 15 million is the minimum number required to secure a victory. They are a purely grassroots organisation!
Wales 4 Europe believes that Wales benefits greatly from the EU including Objective One aid packages, tariff free trade providing a much needed boost to Welsh businesses and protection for workers. They also promote the EU’s benefits for the environment.
Conservatives Europe Group is an affiliate of the Conservative Party that can trace its roots back to 1969 when a group was set up to discuss proposed membership of the European Community. They work to promote constructive debate on Europe with aims for reform as well as close integration with local UK Conservative groups.
The European Movement Northern Ireland campaigns for a stronger Northern Ireland in a stronger Europe.
Out 4 In is a social media campaign aiming to promote the benefits of EU membership for the LGBT community – and for everyone! An inclusive, grassroots, pro-EU community.
UK for EU believes that it is not unpatriotic to wish Britain to be strongly aligned with its European neighbours just like it was not unpatriotic for Scots voters to want Scotland to remain within the United Kingdom in the recent Scottish independence referendum. They are fighting to prevent any misuse of terms like ‘patriot’ and ‘British values’ in this referendum.
The Scottish National Party believes that membership of Europe Union is in Scotland’s best interests. There are a huge number of benefits for Scotland from EU membership including that the EU is the main destination for Scotland’s international exports and as citizens of the EU we are able to travel freely throughout Europe – for work, study or travel – without the need for visas. The SNP doesn’t believe the EU is perfect and agree that it needs reform but the SNP wants Scotland to have a louder voice in Europe - an increased contribution to EU policy making and an opportunity to be part of discussions about reform, rather than becoming even more distant by removing ourselves altogether.
"The EU has the potential to spread peace and make our economies more sustainable, and to promote democracy and human rights, at home and throughout the world. But it must urgently change direction, away from an obsessive focus on competition and free trade and towards placing genuine co-operation and environmental sustainability at its heart." Caroline Lucas, MP, The Green Party

Working together, we can surely make a difference and offer a new, viable, democratic, and effective alternative to what the tired old governing elites  supporting either a UK exit from the EU, or a continuing membership either within an untenable status quo or  -as David Cameron would want - at the price of further British retrenchment and isolation from the main European decision-making processes, can offer us.
